Starting a new business? Before you begin lining up clients, you’ll need to come up with a solid business plan. This will help you focus on your company’s goals and give you a clearer picture of how you want your business to function. 

You don’t have create a business plan from scratch. There are plenty of online sources that provide business plan templates. Use one of these as a starting point, then work on crafting your own plan by following these tips:

  • Don’t go overboard: Use two pages or less to fully explain the purpose of your business, your company’s goals and your company’s vision – your value proposition. Include details on how you plan on accomplishing these goals.
  • Summarize: After covering the basics described above, focus on writing your executive summary. You should be able to do this easily since you’ve already done the research needed to write the rest of your plan.
  • Ask for help: Find a mentor or connect with other small business owners on networking sites or in your local area for business plan help.
