The start of a new season is a great time to take a step back, and breathe new life into your social media profiles. Here are three ways to make them flourish all summer long.

  • Update your profile picture. Take a look at your profile’s picture or avatar. If it’s a company logo, is it still the most up-to-date version? If it’s a photo, think about if it’s well-lit, easy to see your face, and if you look approachable. The avatar is the first thing a client or potential employee will see, so make sure you’re putting your best foot (or face!) forward!
  • Include photos or videos wherever you can. Studies have shown that across social media platforms, posts that include multimedia of any kind tend to perform better. Make it your goal moving forward to include photo, video or even a link in every post if you can – you’ll see great results.
  • Refresh your social following. Have you had your Facebook page for a while? Maybe there are people you’re friends with that no longer make sense (i.e., a former colleague that’s now at a competitor, or an account that’s no longer active). On Twitter, when you got started, did you follow back anyone who followed you as a nicety? Social profiles flourish not just based on quantity of followers but also the quality. If the messages you’re delivering aren’t to the right audience, take a moment and revise your fan base accordingly.
