As we’re on the cusp of switching gears from summer into fall, the number of commuters on the road, all trying to get to and from work, school and other places, has spiked. With this increase in hustle and bustle comes the dreaded traffic; traffic affects travel time, and not to mention mood! Here are some savvy apps that can make navigating through the masses a little easier:

  • Waze: This app was created around the mantra of contributing to the “common good” while on the road. To do this, Waze creates local driving communities that can actively share road reports on traffic, accidents, police traps or new routes that would save the commuter some time. For the “do it yourself” driver, this app is the world’s largest community-based traffic and navigation app.
  • Moovit: Looking to avoid the hassle of missing the bus? This app displays the upcoming departure times for all of the nearby transit lines. It also gives you the capability to plan your trip, set reminders and get notifications about disruptions. If all else fails, you can also easily request an Uber, car2go or closest bike share-all through the app!
  • Bike Maps – by Maplets: For those who like to exercise while getting where they need to go, this app provides hundreds of high resolution bike maps for urban and rural areas, city streets, rail trails and mountain bike trails; knowing how to navigate from point A to point B ahead of time shaves off any unneeded travel time.
