It’s no secret that the holiday season is one of the busiest travel times of the year. Whether you’re taking a train, plane, bus or car – travel time can still be productive time, which will allow you to enjoy more downtime with the family when you do finally reach your holiday destination.

Dave Collins, Senior Vice President of Broker Services at ERA Franchise Systems, frequently travels for work and has some tips and tricks you can leverage to optimize your travel time this season.

  • Create your own “mobile office.” It all starts with approach. If you think of your vehicle as the perfect place for a midday nap, you’re going to take one. Start thinking of planes, trains and buses as mobile offices – places you can put your headphones in and “get in the zone.”
  • Skip the Wi-Fi. The feasibility of disconnecting changes on a case-by-case basis, but if logging on is not necessary, skip it! We’re connected almost all the time these days, take advantage of the opportunity to disconnect and focus completely on the task at hand.
  • Prep for the plane/bus/train. Sitting in a cab on your way to the train station? Take a couple of minutes to think about what you want to accomplish during your hours at the “office.” Create a “travel reading” folder on your computer and make sure everything is downloaded properly before you board, that way everything you need is in one place.
