If you saw our recent tips for recruiting millennials post, you already have a good idea of how to encourage Gen Y to join your company. Now, ERA Broker/Owner Jim Linn of ERA Davis and Linn is sharing how recruiting this influential generation has helped his company succeed.

The Epiphany:

About two years ago, Jim and his co-owner Carole Davis looked around their office and realized the average age of their team was higher than they thought. Recognizing the need to balance the age differential within the office, they began to focus on recruiting younger talent to both management and associate positions.

Jumpstarting the Initiative:

They started by hiring the former top producer in the city of Jacksonville as their new-employee trainer and a 32-year-old as their head of recruitment. This new trainer, who has over 37 years of industry experience, teaches new recruits the ins and outs of real estate from the ground up in a one-on-one setting – a luxury many other real estate companies do not offer.

Creating an Upbeat, Invigorating Environment:

The innovative internet café Jim and Carole began building in the office around the same time also positioned the company as an attractive option, if not the most attractive option, for local millennials pursuing a career in the real estate industry. The 900 square-feet space features a coffee station, full bar, flat-screen TV and designated presentation space – all available to every agent in the office.

Tangible Results:

“Our company reported a 36% growth rate in 2014, and we attribute a lot of this to our recent, renewed focus on recruitment and training,” Jim says, “In 2015 we plan to continue making these efforts top priority – knowing by doing so we are setting ourselves up for long-term success.”
