In this ever-changing attention economy – now more than ever – it’s important to develop a clearly defined strategy and execute with well-baked tactics. What do I mean by this? The actions you take on social media are a cake, baked with ingredients that will either turn into something delicious or result in a terrible mess. I’ve found that there are four key ingredients: to delight, to surprise, to empower, and to connect. Let’s explore them!

DELIGHT PEOPLE WITH THE AMAZEMENT OF WHAT YOU DO

The power of positivity leaves a lasting impression. Do you love what you do? Why? What is it about doing what you do that fulfills you? Delight your audience by sharing your enthusiasm for what you do!

If you’re getting on video or going live, amp yourself up first. Jump up and down, strike a power pose, smile, laugh, and say out loud why you love what you do!

SURPRISE PEOPLE WITH YOUR UNEXPECTED SUPERPOWERS

When we explore the element of surprise, we’re not talking about funny hats and face paint. I mean… we could be if you wanted to. When I think about the element of surprise, I’m thinking about spontaneity and uniqueness.

Some questions to ask yourself are, “What sets myself apart from the sea of sameness?” and “What is in my marketing arsenal? What are my talents, skills, and personality traits that can put a signature on what I’m trying to convey?”

The answers to this don’t come easy. In fact, they could take you on a very long path to self-discovery. Try new things. Refine the elements that work and set aside the ones that don’t.

EMPOWER PEOPLE TO MAKE INFORMED DECISIONS

With technology, people are empowered to be informed consumers. But information doesn’t automatically translate to experience or wisdom. Your clients will not know what they don’t know, and it is in those areas that you could prove your value.

When I imagine empowerment, I see myself enabling people to uncover their own paths to success that they previously never knew about. Empowerment can be achieved by conveying insights, personal anecdotes, and prescriptive calls-to-action.

CONNECTIONS MAKE LASTING IMPRESSIONS!

Marketing in its simplest form is the power of persuasion! And in order to persuade, you must first understand the needs and motivations of your audience. Connect with them. Connecting empowers you to relate on a very fundamental level that is so often lost in business marketing.

If you follow motivational speakers and other professional communicators, listen to how they articulate their thoughts. Take note of how they connect with their audience on a very fundamental level. You can do this.

PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER

A dash of this, a dash of that – the key to success is in finding the right quantity of each ingredient to make your marketing tactics successful and genuine. When you do finally discover the right amount of ingredients that align with your approach and they are baked into your marketing tactics, a beautiful cake emerges. And that’s no lie.
