Respect is absolutely essential in real estate – from clients, from co-workers, and even from competing agents. As such, real estate professionals strive every day to be honorable and trustworthy, and we’re proud to say we see these qualities in every member of Team ERA!

An article on Entrepreneur.com recently laid out 10 things you can do every day to give and receive respect as a leader and strong business person. We went ahead and pinpointed three of these habits that we feel are most relevant to our industry:

  1. Show appreciation. CEO of Mattel, Robert A. Eckert has made it a habit to show his appreciation for his employees. Some examples of ways leaders like Eckert can show gratitude in the workplace include writing handwritten letters and praising employees in public.
  1. Tell the truth. According to the CEO of Silverpop, Bill Nussey, respected leaders are “honest and willing to give the people they care about real feedback and advice.” This doesn’t just go for the good stuff either, Nussey explains, it’s equally important to be transparent with not so great news as well.55
  1. Are humble. Lazlo Bock, SVP of people operations for Google, shares that humility is one quality he looks for when recruiting employees. This can include using your mistakes as teachable moments, welcoming uncertainty and empowering others to lead when appropriate.
